Name:

Katie Robinson

Education:

BS, Dietetics, Iowa State University

MPH, Master of Public Health, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

PhD Program:

Nutritional Sciences

Research Interest:

Mrs. Robinson became involved in research when she was selected to take part in the Professional Women in Science and Engineering Research Internship at Iowa State University. In 2011, she began her graduate studies at the University of Illinois under the advisement of Dr. Margarita Teran-Garcia and Dr. Sharon Donovan. She has experience investigating gene-environment interactions related to obesity in cohorts ranging from infancy to adulthood. Katie's long-term career goal is to expand our knowledge of behavioral and biological factors that identify those at the highest risk for obesity associated diseases. By pursuing this objective, she aspires to describe clinically relevant biomarkers that will lead to early identification of at-risk individuals and ensure that they receive the best possible care.

MPH Practicum Experience:

Mrs. Robinson interned at the Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon Illinois as part of the Rural Interdisciplinary Health Professions Preceptorship Program. Her projects involved evaluating hospital readmissions and developing recommendations for improved patient care. She also created public awareness displays on various nutrition topics and gained a better understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities.

Advisor:

Dr. Margarita Teran-Garcia and Dr. Sharon Donovan
