Research Interest:

Mr. Figueroa is working with a multi-disciplinary team to investigate the understudied roles of family childcare settings and their providers on child health outcomes; particularly looking at enabling factors of preschoolers' physical activity in this context. In addition, he studies public perceptions of the obesity epidemic in the US and global cultures.

MPH Practicum Experience:

Mr. Figueroa worked with the Life Organizational Lessons Workgroup under Illinois Extension Family & Consumer Sciences Interdisciplinary programs. The project involved review of the literature on best practices for effective social media outreach and educational video interventions for 17-25 year-olds in order to help young adults develop positive behaviors in the areas of financial management, healthy eating, communication skills and life partner choices.
